Civil Partnership Registration and Ceremonies

image depicting Civil Partnership

Civil Partnership Registration is for same-sex adult couples who wish to enter into a legally binding agreement.

The Government has sought to give gay and lesbian couples parity of treatment with heterosexual couples, as far as is possible, with the rights and responsibilities that follow on from forming a legal civil partnership.

A civil partnership is formed when both partners sign the legal document in the presence of a registrar and two witnesses. Registered couples will have legal status as "Registered Civil Partners".

A Registered Civil Partnership can only be dissolved through a court-based process, similar to the divorce process.

You can choose to make your Partnership Registration a very special day at Swansea by incorporating it into a Partnership Ceremony. Conducted by one of the professional celebrants at the Swansea Registration Service, your ceremony will be tailored to your own wishes and can be held at our lovely sea front Celebration Suite or one of the venues which are approved for civil ceremonies.
