Applying for Council Housing

image depicting Applying for Council housing

Local Authority housing or council housing is long term, low rent accommodation.

A Housing Options adviser can help you complete an application to register on our housing needs register for Council Housing.

Housing is in extremely high demand and you should consider choosing as many areas as possible.

You will be awarded housing need points according to your circumstances and we will then write to you to let you know how many points you have been awarded.

Once your points have been awarded you can contact an adviser at Housing Options who will give further advice on area choices and likely waiting times.

Please see 'Your housing application' for more information on the application process.

The demand for Council and Housing Association Accommodation is high and waiting times for accommodation in many areas is extremely long.  You should therefore also consider renting in the private sector as an option.

Council properties that are available to rent now are advertised on this website and the Swansea Housing website also advertises a range of available properties.

If you need to complete an application for Housing, please contact Housing Options on 01792 533100.  Alternatively, you can email housingoptions@swansea.gov.uk
