Food Business AdviceWe offer advice to new and existing food businesses including food safety management systems, food hygiene training and food handlers fitness to work.New food hygiene laws came into force in the UK on 1 January 2006. They affect all food businesses, including caterers, primary producers (such as farmers), manufacturers, distributors and retailers.
Food Handlers have a responsibility to ensure that they prepare, cook and serve food in a hygienic way. When handling food they can pass on germs.
In light of advice received from Food Standards Agency Wales following the Davidson Review, this section on food hygiene training is under review.
Environmental Health Officers and Trading Standards Officers have the right to enter and inspect food properties at all reasonable hours. They do not have to make an appointment and they will usually come without warning.
The Food Hygiene Regulations (Wales) 2006 require catering businesses to have a Food Safety Management System based on the principles of HACCP.
Sampling is undertaken to ensure that the food you eat is safe.
The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has launched a UK-wide campaign, to raise awareness among food businesses about the Agency tools available to help businesses comply with food hygiene law.
