Discovery Centre Set for UnveilingWILDLIFE and history fans are in for a treat with the opening of a new discovery centre in Swansea's most famous park. ![]() Brynmill Park's octagonal-shaped discovery centre is being opened to the public during the spring. The iconic centre forms part of a £1.3million restoration scheme at the beauty spot and includes an educational workshop and community space as well as an office, kiosk, toilets and baby-changing facilities. Interpretation materials are also included that depict the wildlife and history of the park and nests will be built nearby so people can bird watch from inside. The discovery centre is part of a project funded by Swansea Council and The Heritage Lottery Fund to restore Brynmill Park to its Victorian heyday. Most of the upgrade is now complete and has included the introduction of a new children's play area and the refurbishment of the bowls pavilion at the attraction. Swansea Council's Brynmill Park project manager Richard Staton said: "Construction of the new discovery centre is now complete and plans are in preparation for its opening to the public later in the spring. "It will be the hub of the beauty spot and a focal point for friends and families to meet. "The discovery centre will also be bustling with activities and facts that will help visitors to better understand the wildlife of the park and its fascinating history. "We also plan to hire out the facility to community groups for the staging of meetings and exhibitions and will be running events such as nature workshops for children during the school holidays. "The restoration scheme is very much on track and is now nearing its final stages." Other improvements at Brynmill Park have seen the refurbishment of the perimeter fencing and gates, the repair and resurfacing of the path network, the replacement of all seats and bins, the installation of two floating nesting islands on the lake as well as some aquatic planting and tree surgery works. Soft landscaping works are ongoing and a Victorian floral bedding scheme will be introduced at the main ornamental lawn. Prospective community users should contact the discovery centre staff on 01792 205327 for a preliminary chat about their requirements.
