Walter Keeler - An Artist's Selection![]() 24 April - 6 July 2008, Craft GalleryWalter Keeler is one of Wales' most eminent potters; a professor in ceramics, shortlisted for the Jerwood Applied Arts Prize, with work in public collections around the world. ![]() This exhibition, curated by Ralph Turner, offers a rare insight into the artists own collection of work from the last forty years. From the beginning of his career, functional stoneware pots – teapots, bowls, jugs - to his later experimentation in domestic-ware which he continues today. Friday 30 May, 1pm Studio Potters and Design: a case study of the Whieldon inspired earthenwares of Walter Keeler In this talk Dr Matthew Partington outlines Walter Keeler's life history, including images of his work from college onwards and shows several video clips. Dr Matthew Partington Dr Matthew Partington is the University of the West of England's Victoria and Albert Museum Senior Research Fellow in the Applied Arts. He is Director of NEVAC - The National Electronic and Video Archive of the Crafts - a resource which exists to record interviews with people associated with contemporary British crafts. The archive contains interviews with a range of craftspeople - including ceramicists, glass-makers, embroiderers, furniture makers, enamellers and metalsmiths. Matthew Chairs the Faculty of Creative Arts' Research Ethics Committee and Exhibitions Group and is an active member of the ETC (Enamel, Textile and Ceramics) Applied Arts Research Group. He is External Examiner for the Contemporary Crafts undergraduate course at University College, Falmouth. |
