MARKETING and staff recruitment will soon be on the cards for a major new community facility in Gorseinon.
Swansea Council's Cabinet has approved a recommendation that part of an interest-free loan the Authority's agreed with the Gorseinon Development Trust (GDT) be released early to help with the early stages of operating the Canolfan Gorseinon Centre.
This will allow the Trust to begin their staff recruitment, develop marketing material and buy specialist equipment.
The Canolfan Gorseinon Centre is located at the former Bryngwyn Steelworks site in the town and will include a healthy living cafe, child care and conference facilities, office space, opportunities for business start-up support and facilities catering for the community and social use.
Completion of building work is scheduled for the summer and the Centre's expected to be unveiled to the public in the autumn.
It's proposed the GDT will lease the facility from Swansea Council.
Swansea Council's Cabinet Member for Community Regeneration, Cllr Joan Peters, said: "The community has been involved in this project from start to finish and the fruits of partnership working will very soon be there for all to see.
"This is going to a terrific facility for Gorseinon and early release of some of the loan will allow the Trust to start recruitment procedures for taking on specialist staff, to promote early uptake of space in the Centre and to purchase specialist equipment for the cafe and childcare facilities.
"Gorseinon will be welcoming a major boost to its community in the autumn and the town deserves it."
