Tesco Store Llansamlet
Tesco's retail-store at Llansamlet, Swansea has been modified to significantly reduce the impact that it has on the environment compared with other stores, and to be a test-bed for new technologies that could be introduced across Tesco's very large estates.
Increasing Energy Efficiency:
Energy-saving measures include methods of lighting, refrigeration, heating, ventilation and air-conditioning.
During construction, a number of meters were fitted to monitor the use and production of energy in different areas of the store. Within three months of the store's opening in April, 2006, it was demonstrated that 36.4 per cent less energy had been used than at a previously built, but comparable, store at Longton, Stoke-on-Trent.

Tesco is analysing the impact of the various features of the design, structure and management of its energy-systems at Llansamlet and will incorporate those that are successful in their other stores as opportunities arise to do so.
