Administrative history: Neath Antiquarian Society Founded in 1923, the Neath Antiquarian Society is the successor to the Neath Philosophical and Antiquarian Society (1834-1867), its aim being to study the history of Neath and district. The society has been involved with the excavation of Neath Abbey, St Margaret's Chapel, Coedffranc, and in the discovery of the Roman fort at Neath. It has collected paintings and engravings of Neath and district, a sizeable collection of local archives, books on the history of Neath, and historical periodicals. It has also produced books on the history of Neath itself, and publishes The Transactions of the Neath Antiquarian Society.

Scope and content: This collection contains all official papers of the Society, along with other papers relating to their academic and social activities. It includes minutes, society rules, membership records, correspondence and accounts, papers relating to the activities of the society including lecture transcripts and reports, menus and invitations, publicity material, inventories of documents, and indexes to the Transactions.
