Snow every day planned for Swansea ski slope schemeTHESE are the first images of what the multi-million pound indoor ski centre for Swansea may look like. Architects acting for developers Multi Sport Resort LLP have produced outline drawings to give a first impression of a centre that would be the first of its kind in the world. If agreed the centre would draw on world-beating green technology to use recycled rainwater, solar energy and wind power to create an indoor ski slope that would be able to have a fresh dusting of real snow every day. The scheme has been earmarked for the former former dry ski slope at Morfa. The multi-million pound venture could create more than 450 jobs and would mean that alpine ski conditions would be a feature year-round in the city. Officers at Swansea Council have been given a green light to go ahead with negotiations with Multi Sports Resort, a private sector partnership. The proposed new resort would include an indoor snow centre with a ski area, ice rink, health and fitness spa, restaurants and shops. Multi Sports resorts also wants to build two hotels and a conference centre to the east side of Nantong Way and develop Pluck Lake for rowing, canoeing and fishing. If given the go-ahead, the work will be phased over three years with the snow centre included in the first stage. Chris Holley, Swansea Council, Leader, said, "These images give an exciting first impression of what the resort could look like. The resort would potentially have a massive impact on Swansea and its tourism industry." The images show a proposed shape for the indoor ski slope from various angles as well as an Alpine-style hotel. Any plan would be subject to planning permission. Alistair Johns, a partner in Multi Sports Resorts LLP, said, "We are planning to use world-leading technology and eco-friendly methods to create this resort. The snow centre will be the first of its kind in the world, creating snow flakes which can replenish the slope every day."
