Employer Pledge

image depicting BSA Employer Pledge

Good basic skills are essential to perform a wide range of activities safely and effectively within the workplace.

The Employer Pledge has been developed in Wales to address basic skills issues in the workplace. It is part of the Welsh Assembly Government's National Basic Skills Strategy – Words Talk, Numbers Count. The Pledge will contribute to the Strategy aim of reducing the substantial number of adults in Wales with poor literacy and/or numeracy skills and is supported by Wales TUC, CBI Wales, the Sector Skills Councils and SSDA Wales, WLGA and other partners.

For an organisation to succeed everyone has to perform well. Your company's reputation, its competitiveness and its future depend on your employees.

It also makes sound business sense, helping your company to:

  • improve quality
  • increase accuracy
  • improve customer relations
  • deliver better team performance
  • encourage initiative and innovation
  • meet legal as well as health and safety requirements.

The Pledge is aimed at all companies – the private, public and voluntary sectors, whatever their size. There is no charge to join the scheme and you will receive free support and advice from the Basic Skills Agency – the national agency for basic skills in England and Wales.
