Demolition Complete at David EvansDEMOLITION work at the former David Evans site in Swansea City Centre is now complete. ![]() The news marks another step forward for a project that will see a flagship three-storey retail development in place by the summer of 2008. Archaeologists have now arrived back on site to look at a castle ditch that was uncovered during an initial search and filled with sand for preservation throughout demolition. It is thought their work will be complete by the end of June before a 14-month construction phase begins. Historic medallions that had been present at the location have also been removed and transferred to Swansea Museum for safekeeping and display. Swansea Council has signed a development agreement with Thurleigh Estates of London for the redevelopment of the David Evans site. The finished retail project will measure 70,000 square feet and is aimed at generating further investment in the city centre and attracting more shoppers to the area. JT Morgan, Zara and Slater Menswear have already been unveiled as tenants for the complete scheme. Hywel Evans, chairperson of the Swansea Business Forum, said: "This is an exciting scheme. Three major anchor tenants have already signed up and the challenge now is to attract even more quality retailers to make sure the momentum keeps gathering. Swansea Council Leader, Cllr Chris Holley, said: "Demolition was a real sign of progress and showed members of the public that this scheme is now developing in leaps and bounds.
