Advice to Tenants

Advice to Tenants

In the past a number of companies claiming to represent the Council have contacted tenants offering to carry out outstanding repairs.

The companies claim to have access to EC grant money to carry out these works and may ask for:

  • National Insurance Number
  • Pension details
  • Other personal information

Some tenants have been contacted by telephone, others by callers to their home.

These companies are not part of, or associated with, the Council and do not have permission to represent the Council in any capacity.

As your landlord, the Council offers a free advice service to each of its tenants covering all issues affecting their homes, together with providing a responsive repairs service. Should you have any concerns, please contact your Housing Officer or Local District Housing Office before signing any agreement in connection with your home

Alternatively you may wish to contact the Citizens Advice Bureau on 08444 772020 or Shelter Cymru on 01792 644844 who can offer helpful advice.

Please remember - always ask callers to your home for identification and avoid giving them any personal information such as your National Insurance Number.

Housing and Council Tax Benefit Appeals

If you are unhappy about a Housing Benefit or Council Tax Benefit decision you can appeal against it.   You will need to contact the Benefits Section of the Council.  You will need to do this within one month of the date of the Council's decision.

For further information use the link on the right to the Housing and Council Tax Benefits Section.
