New sports village to host top athleticsThe state-of-the-art facilities at Ashleigh Road have been granted full certification by UK Athletics, clearing the way to stage top class athletics in![]() The £5.5 million sports village was developed following the demolition of the former Morfa Stadium to make way for a new retail centre as part of the deal to build the Liberty Stadium. The sports village has regional standard indoor and outdoor athletics facilities and two international standard all-weather pitches for hockey and football. Located next to the Wales National Pool, the facilities give Gerald Clement, Swansea Council's Cabinet Member for Culture Recreation and Tourism, said, "We are delighted that the athletics facilities have been granted full certification. "The Council has pulled out all the stops to ensure that the certificate was granted as quickly as possible so that the city could stage top-class athletics. "The facilities available at the centre are absolutely fantastic. They will give athletes in the city a wonderful base to train and compete. "The Council has made this investment to give our athletes and stars of the future the best possible facilities so that they can train and compete with confidence."
