Action Resource Centre (ARC) Manager (BPP Development Trust)

It's thanks to the support of the Objective 1 European Regeneration Development Fund that the former Co-operative store in Blaenymaes has been transformed into a job shop, computer training facility and community café.

Known as the 'ARC' (Action Resource Centre), the Centre Manager Bobby Grey explains its role, "As well as enjoying a bargain breakfast, the customers get to see what's going on in the ARC and are encouraged to try things for themselves. With courses as diverse as Computer maintenance, Stopping Smoking and Driving Test Theory, we are guaranteed a steady stream of interested customers through our door". But despite all of these excellent new facilities on offer within the ARC itself, work being carried out by development workers outside in the community is really bringing in the results. Their role is to encourage local people to access new opportunities, to improve their own lives as well as help improve the community in which they live. Local groups such as the Bass Bandits Fishing Group, the Mudskippers Junior Motorcycle Group and a team at the Drop in Centre which designs and builds mosaic murals - all have been encouraged to grow and thrive."
