Botanical gardens

Swansea has three specialist attractions that comprise a huge range of plant species and collections within differing environments

The Friends of the City of Swansea Botanical Complex (FCSBC) have supported the following Botanical gardens in various ways since their formation in 1994. The plant sales are their main source of fundraising which started in April 1998.  These plant sales start from 2 April until 1 October at the Botanical Gardens, Singleton Park. 

Growing the Future

'Growing the Future' is a brand new initiative delivered by National Botanic Garden of Wales.  The project is about encouraging people to grow their own food for a more self sufficient way of life.  There are a number of different courses happening throughout Wales, but here are the courses happening in at the Botanical Gardens, Singleton Park, Swansea - to book visit www.growingthefuture.co.uk;

Grow Your Own in a Year             
5 April 2014
Time: 10:00 – 16:30         
Price: £10 per day (payable up front for all sessions)
In just one 1 day a month you learn what to do in your garden, then go home and have a go!  Hands on & packed with handy hints & tips to ensure you have a successful season of growing!  This course is held on the first Saturday of each month for 10 months, starting on 5 April 2014

Seed Selection
Wednesday 9 April 2014          
Time: 10:00 – 12:00         
Price: £5
With the seemingly endless varieties of seeds available, choosing which seeds to use can be hard. This course will give you the knowledge to select the best suited seeds for your growing needs.   

Plan Your Plot
Wednesday 19 April 2014        
Time: 10:00 – 13:30         
Price: £5 
Want to start a vegetable garden but unsure of where to begin? Starting a vegetable plot can often seem like a daunting challenge - this course will take you through the process from where to site your plot to planning what to grow. Learn about preparing your soil and get tips and advice on what to grow.  

Introduction to Composting

Everything you need to know about compost. Learn about the importance and reasons for composting, the principles of home composting and explore practical composting techniques.   

Herbs for beginners

Time: 10:00 - 13:30          
Price: £5
Learn how to grow fresh herbs. Plan your herb growing area and learn about some easy ways to grow herbs from scratch from both seeds or cuttings and take away useful tips on their culinary and other uses.
