Stray Dogs![]() Under the Environmental Protection Act 1990, it is an offence to allow your dog to stray in a public place.The Council is required to deal with stray dogs within its area. A dog may reasonably be treated as a stray if it is roaming freely in any public place and not under the control of any person. Dogs that are picked up are well looked after in kennels for a seven day period, after which time they may be re-homed. If a stray dog is impounded a release fee (including any veterinary expenses incurred) must be paid to the Council. The dog will not be released and reunited with its owner until the fees have been paid in full. There is no provision for payment by instalment. Payments should be made at the Civic Centre. The release fee is currently £71 plus £9.70 for each day / part day spent in the kennels. There is a reduced flat rate fee of £25 for the first day plus £9.70 for each day / part day for people receiving one of the following benefits:

Please refer to your bank or building society for more information. What do I do if my dog has gone missing? If you have lost your dog and think it may have been picked up as a stray, please telephone us on (01792) 635600. What do I do if I have found a stray dog? During office hours, telephone us on (01792) 635600 and an animal warden will come and collect the dog from you where practicable. Alternatively, any dog found straying during or outside office hours can be taken to the council's acceptance point at the Security Office, Pipehouse Wharf, Morfa Road, Swansea, SA1 2EN or keep the dog until the next working day and contact us for collection.
