Healthy city nightlife

The healthy nightlife workstream is well established as an important contributor to the health and vitality of the city.

Purple Flag

This has led to awards from the 'Association of Town Centre Managers', 'Purple Flag', participation in the Home Office 'Local Alcohol Action Areas' scheme and 'Sustainable Project of the Year' from Sustain Wales.

In awarding the Purple Flag, ATCM Assessors made special mention of the city's Help Point which provides preventative and minor injury care for vulnerable and minor casualties in the night-time economy aided by street pastors and student volunteers.

This is linked to a supervised pick -up and drop off point to safely welcome arrivals and departures by bus and to a large area with colourful themed messages promoting sensible drinking and responsibility.

A comprehensive night-time economy strategy is now being developed by the safer swansea based on the key themes of the Purple Flag Scheme to further improve diversity and to mainstream initiatives designed to provide a safe and healthy night time environment.
