Convergence West Wales and the Valleys Programme 2007-2013

The convergence programmes covered the same West Wales and the Valleys area as the previous Objective 1 programme. The programmes covered the 2007 to 2013 period.

The programmes were designed by the Welsh European Funding Office (WEFO) with a sharper focus on creating sustainable jobs and economic growth. In order to ensure a clearer focus on jobs and growth, a smaller number of more strategic projects were supported when compared to the large number of smaller initiatives supported through Objective 1.

Convergence was made up of two separate but complementary programmes, outlining the main 'priorities' for funding support:

European Regional Development Fund covering:

  • Priority 1: Building the knowledge based economy
  • Priority 2: Improving business competitiveness
  • Priority 3: Developing strategic infrastructure for a modern economy
  • Priority 4: Creating an attractive business environment
  • Priority 5: Building sustainable communities
  • Priority 6: Technical assistance

European Social Fund covering:

  • Priority 1: Supplying young people with the skills needed for employment
  • Priority 2: Tackling economic inactivity
  • Priority 3: Improving skills levels and the adaptability of the workforce
  • Priority 4: Making the connections
  • Priority 5: Technical assistance
