Health visiting

The Flying Start Health team is made up of health visitors, midwives, speech and language therapists and is supported by community nursery nurses.

We are part of ABM University Health Board and work closely with core services across Swansea. The Flying Start Health Team works closely with all of the partners across Swansea Flying Start including Local Authority, Education and the Family Partnership Team.

Flying Start Health Visitors have less children on their caseload so they can work more closely with the Flying Start population to promote health and well-being (no more than 110 children aged 0-4 years for each full time Health Visitor). Our Health Visitors have a universal Flying Start programme and they will visit you and your family at set times during your child's first 4 years. They also run group activities such as drop in and baby massage. Your Health Visitor will ask you about your child and family's health when they visit you.

Promoting Health - The Health team will provide advice on different aspects of caring for your child and will monitor your child's growth and development. We will provide advice on sleep, immunisations, routines, home safety and other issues related to caring for your child. As a Health Team we will work in partnership with you and discuss different Public Health topics that affect everyone including smoking, eating well, keeping fit and healthy and making healthy choices in lifestyle. All members of the team can either provide advice or signpost/refer onto other supportive services if required.

Midwifery - Flying Start midwives are part of the 'Jig-so' project which is a Swansea wide team made up of midwives, nursery nurses, family facilitators and early language development workers.

They work with parents aged 16-24 years old who are first time parents with the aim of providing support to young and vulnerable families.
