Throughout the year we conduct various surveys in order to find out more about our visitors and how we can make improvements to our destination.

2016 STEAM research summary

  • Expenditure - £400.3 million (- 1.6% on 2015)
  • 4.59 million visitors to the area (+ 0.6% on 2015)
  • Number of jobs supported - 5,674 (- 0.8% on 2015)

We use STEAM (Scarborough Tourism Economic Activity Model) to monitor the scale of tourism and trends in Swansea Bay. You can request a copy of the 2015 STEAM Executive Summary by contacting 01792 635205.

About our visitors

  • Affluent 'Empty Nesters' aged 45+ years
  • Affluent early retired couples aged 45+ years
  • Younger affluent professionals aged 25 - 45 years
  • Mid income families with children
  • Businesses and groups
  • Where they come from (UK): Midlands, London, South East, M4 Corridor, West Country and other parts of Wales.
  • Overseas visitors are mainly from the USA, Germany, France, Australia, Ireland and The Netherlands.
