School and Governor team

The School and Governor team is based within the Civic Centre in Swansea and provide support to a full complement of 1670 governors covering 105 governing bodies.

There are always vacancies for school governors and we are keen to hear from people who are interested in becoming school governors.

The School and Governor team responsibilities include:

  • Making arrangements to ensure that governing bodies are established and operate in accordance with legislative requirements 
  • Advising on the eligibility of persons to serve on governing bodies and election/appointment to the various categories of governor 
  • Preparing advice to governors on changes in legislation, policy matters and points of interest 
  • Providing a helpline for governors seeking advice, during office hours 
  • Planning and administering the governors training programme.

Each member of the school and governor unit will take enquiries on all aspects of the unit's responsibilities and will do their best to help you with your queries. Below are the members of the school and governor unit who deal with governing body issues:

In addition to providing guidance on governing body procedures and administering the governor training programme, the School and Governor team has a number of other functions and responsibilities.  These include:

  • Admission of pupils to schools 
  • School catchment areas 
  • Pupil exclusions 
  • Free school meals/clothing grants 
  • Pupil performance licences and chaperone licences
  • Pupil welfare issues 
  • School milk scheme 
  • School terms and holiday dates 
  • INSET closure dates 
  • Pupil transport
