Central library closed on Saturday for essential maintenance

Swansea Central Library will be closed on Saturday (Nov 11) while unavoidable essential electrical maintenance is carried out at the Civic Centre.

The work will also impact on some of the council's other online services.

The Civic Centre, including the Café and Library, will be closed to members of the public and council staff for the day but the Wedding Suite will remain open.

The 16 community libraries will be open but because the work involves shutting down the council's ICT network they will only be able to offer a walk in browsing service.

Staff will do their best to issue and return books but customers will not be able to reserve books or pay fines or charges.

There will be no IT access for customers, no WIFI and no access to ebooks and some other e-services.

Other council buildings such as leisure centres will also have limited ICT.

The council's websites and online payments will still be available, although customers will not have access to some online services such as the recycling search, planning search and councillor information during this down time.

Waterfront Winterland tickets will be available from the Swansea Christmas website as usual - www.swanseachristmas.com

A spokesperson for Swansea Council said: "While we appreciate this will present a degree of inconvenience to some residents it is of critical importance that this work takes place.

"We are doing all we can to minimise disruption to services and wherever possible alternative arrangements are being put in place for the public to access essential services over the weekend.

"We would like to thank residents for their patience and understanding in advance and to assure them that the work is being done as quickly as possible so our full range of services are back up and running as quickly as possible."
