Warning issued to people renovating properties

South Wales Police is warning the public that burglars are targeting houses undergoing renovations, amidst a new target for burglars scoping unoccupied properties.

Empty properties being renovated offer easy picking for burglars. We don't want to cause unnecessary alarm but we do want to create awareness that these burglaries have happened and encourage residents to remain vigilant and keep their home secure.

Items being stolen include power tools, highlighting the need to secure these items when the renovated properties are unoccupied.

DC Emma Robbins advises: "Please don't leave tools or property lying around and remove any valuables from homes that you are working on and if possible don't install expensive items such as boilers or white goods until the property is occupied.

We would appeal for any potential witnesses to come forward and for people to be vigilant if they are currently renovating their property."

The properties under renovation, which have been targeted, are in the Uplands, Dunvant and Mumbles areas. In addition, a vehicle was also taken from a property in Gower Road, Sketty. If you have any information please contact 101, or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111 quoting occurrence: 1700392491.
