Record entries for the 2017 High 5 Awards

Hundreds of inspirational children and young people from Swansea have been nominated for the city's High 5 Awards.

High 5 Awards 2017

Around 400 unsung young stars of our communities have been put forward for the honours as individuals, as a member of a group, or as a school class for making a difference in their own lives or to their families, schools or communities.

Nominations flooded in from friends, family, schools, Council staff, employers and voluntary organisations in a bid to celebrate their hard work and achievements.

They tell of children and young people who have overcome all sorts of challenges to be the best they can be in their own lives or are improving life for their family, community or school.

Swans midfield ace and awards ambassador Leon Britton said: "Yet again young people have done the High 5 awards and their city proud.

"Thank you to all the nominators and the young people who inspired them. You have made this highest amount of entries in the history of the awards.

"Everyone nominated deserves recognition for doing something worthy and that's why High 5 will be awarding all nominees with a special certificate to show that their efforts are valued and reward them for their inspirational work.

"It's going to be a hard task this summer judging who deserves extra special recognition and will go on to win an award and prize designed around them."

It's the sixth year that the Swansea Council-led High 5 awards have been held. This year there were 129 nominations for individuals and 27 nominations for groups or whole school classes.

Nominations for the awards have now closed. Judging will take place over the summer.

Everyone nominated will receive a certificate. Shortlisted nominees will be invited to special ceremony at the Liberty Stadium in the autumn where Leon Britton will present winners with a special prize.

The High 5 Awards are organised by Swansea Council, sponsored by Gower College Swansea, and supported by Swansea City FC, Rotary Club of Swansea, Swansea Building Society, Swansea Lord Mayor's Office, Stenor, Day's Rental, Swansea Council Recycling Team, The LC Swansea, McDonalds, Go Air Trampoline Park - Swansea, Gower Activity Centres as part of Swansea Young Peoples Services and CPR which produces Watchu.
