FIS Training - Cruse Bereavement Care Children and Young People

Facilitated by Glenys Benford Lewis.

The aim of the course is to equip you with an awareness and understanding of the complexity of needs experienced by bereaved children and young people in order to provide effective support.

By the end of the course you will have:

Awareness

  • Have gained awareness of the effects of grief on children and young people
  • Have learnt about the models of grief
  • Have gained awareness of the work undertaken by Cruse Bereavement Care

Skills

  • Be able to identify some of the common responses experienced by children and young people who have been bereaved
  • Be able to assess a bereaved child or young person's individual needs and provide appropriate and effective support
  • Be able to recognise potential indicators of complicated grief in children and young people
  • Know how to safeguard their own emotional wellbeing when supporting a bereaved child/young person

Knowledge

  • Have an increased understanding of the impact of grief on children and young people
  • Have an increased understanding of the affects adult grief can have on children and young people
  • Have an increased understanding of the needs of children and young people who have been bereaved through sudden and traumatic death.
