Wales National Airshow to return in July

Make some space in your diaries - it's been confirmed the Wales National Airshow is returning to Swansea this summer.

Red Arrows Air Show

Swansea Council has confirmed the free two-day event is being held on Saturday July 1 and Sunday July 2.

First held in Swansea in 2007, this will be the third consecutive year for the Wales National Airshow in the city.

Last year, the event, part of the Enjoy Swansea programme of events and activities, attracted more than 200,000 spectators.

Cllr Robert Francis-Davies, Swansea Council's Cabinet Member for Enterprise, Development and Regeneration, said: "Back in 2015, we made a commitment to the people of Swansea and visitors to the city that we'd do all could to make the Airshow an annual event. The confirmation if its return for the third consecutive year shows how determined we are to make world class entertainment a key, regular feature of our hugely varied Enjoy Swansea programme of events and activities, which runs throughout the year.

"As well as being a crowd pleaser, the huge number of people attracted into the city for the spectacular combination of aerobatic performances, vintage aircraft and ground displays also considerably boosts local businesses because of the increased spending in our shops, restaurants, bed and breakfasts, hotels, pubs and other businesses.

"Making the Airshow one of our key anchor events on an annual basis also makes it far more viable from a commercial perspective, particularly in terms of sponsorship and traders.

"There has already been a significant amount of interest from the private sector in partnership opportunities with the council for the event. Details of the Airshow's make-up and confirmed partnerships will be announced over coming weeks and months."

Some of the aircraft that took part in last year's Wales National Airshow included the Red Arrows, the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight and a Russian MiG from the Cold War.

Early bird partnership packages are still available for businesses and organisations looking to be involved in this summer's Airshow. Email mags.pullen@swansea.gov.uk for more information or call 01792 635102.
