Counting down to the 2016 High 5 Awards

The countdown is on for the High 5 Awards 2016 for inspirational youngsters.

Around 350 unsung young stars of our communities were put forward for the honours as individuals or as a member of a group, for making a difference in their own lives or to their families, schools, or communities.

Everyone nominated will now be recognised with a special certificate from High 5 and this year more young people than ever will be honoured with a Highly Commended for their efforts.

The quality of entries was so high judges faced a difficult task in drawing up a shortlist of nominees who ought to be in line for an extra special reward at the High 5 Awards ceremony on September 29th.

In the next few weeks worthy youngsters who made the shortlist will be contacted to be invited to that awards night at the Liberty Stadium where Swans star and awards ambassador Leon Britton will present prizes to the winners.

Leon said: "The judges task of selecting finalists was harder than ever this year because the quality of entries was truly amazing.

"Every young person put forward should be very proud of what they have achieved."

Its the fifth year that the Swansea Council led High 5 awards have been held. This year more than 110 individuals and 20 groups of young people have been nominated including a whole school class.

The awards are sponsored by Gower College Swansea, and supported by Swansea City FC, The Wave, Rotary Club of Swansea, Trade Tyres Swansea, Swansea Building Society, Day's Rental, Stenor Environmental Services, Swansea Council's recycling team, Swansea Lord Mayor's Office, Dragon Events, and The Dragon Hotel.
