The things you need to know before you visit West Glamorgan Archives.

Accessibility

1. Building accessibility

  • Parking: There are 16 dedicated parking spaces for disabled visitors to the Civic Centre. Of these, 4 spaces are located at the bottom of the access ramp to the main entrance. A further 12 spaces are available in the East Car Park.
     
  • Access to the Civic Centre is through an automatic entrance on same level as the East Car Park. All public areas of the Civic Centre are fully accessible to wheelchairs.
     
  • West Glamorgan Archive Service is situated on the ground floor of the Civic Centre, and is fully accessible to wheelchairs. An automatic entrance allows for easy access.
     
  • Animals: Assistance dogs are welcome. No other animals are allowed in the Civic Centre.
     
  • Toilets: There are accessible toilets situated on the ground floor of the Civic Centre, adjacent to the main reception. In addition, a Changing Places facility is also located adjacent to the main reception. This provides accessible toilet facilities for people with profound and multiple learning difficulties and other disabled people who cannot use standard accessible toilets. The facility provides extra space for disabled people and their personal assistants or carers, and a height adjustable changing bench and hoist.
     
  • Baby changing facilities are available adjacent to the Civic Centre main reception.
     
  • Refreshments: The Coastline Café is situated on the ground floor of the Civic Centre, adjacent to the main reception.
     

2. Enquiries and admissions

  • Information leaflets are available in both standard and large print formats.
     
  • All enquiry desks and counters have lowered sections and loop systems are available.
     
  • Seating: a choice of chairs with and without arms are available in the Archive Searchroom.
     

3. Using the Family History Centre and Archive Searchroom

  • Magnifying glasses are available to borrow from the enquiry desks.
     
  • A Quicklook video magnifier is also available to borrow from the enquiry desks. This handheld device can be used to enlarge text onto a display screen to make it easier to read.
     

4. Emergency procedures

  • In the event of an emergency/evacuation, if it safe to do so, all visitors should leave the building using the emergency exit located on the ground floor, adjacent to the Archives Reception. Archive Service staff will direct visitors to this exit.
