Best Start - Talking, listening and singing

We enjoy talking, listening and singing with our children.

Grandpa and Flap

Talking, listening and singing with our children is another one of the most important aspects of giving your child the best start in life. But why and what do they get out of it?

Talking, listening and singing together helps your child in many different ways and will:

  • develop their language - they learn from listening to you
  • strengthen bonds
  • develop confidence
  • help their development of speech and language skills
  • help your baby learn to pay attention
  • help to calm them down when they become distressed
  • help them feel secure
  • help to establish healthy routines and habits - try singing a song to brush your teeth

Research shows that babies prefer the sound of their parents' voice over anyone else's.

The children who play and who talk with their parents when they are very young are often the ones who do best in school.

The more words children have heard by age three, the better they do on tests.

And remember.....your child wants you to join in and wants to listen to you!
