Hundreds of inspirational youngsters nominated for High 5 awards

Record numbers of inspirational children and young people from Swansea have been nominated for the city's High 5 Awards.

High 5 Awards Leon 2016

Around 350 unsung young stars of our communities have been put forward for the honours as individuals or as a member of a group, for making a difference in their own lives or to their families, schools or communities.

Nominations flooded in from friends, family, schools, Council staff, employers and voluntary organisations in a bid to celebrate their hard work and achievements.

Swans midfield ace and awards ambassador Leon Britton said: "Today we are celebrating not just the numbers of youngsters nominated, but also the truly amazing stories contained in each and every nomination.

"We are so grateful to people for putting forward such high quality of entries so that we can honour truly deserving children and young people.

"Everyone nominated deserves recognition for doing something worthy and that's why High 5 will be awarding all nominees with a special certificate to show that their efforts are valued and reward them for their inspirational work.

"It's going to be a hard task judging those who deserve extra special recognition and will go on to win an award and prize designed around them."

Its the fifth year that the Swansea Council led High 5 awards have been held. This year more than 110 individuals and 20 groups of young people have been nominated including a whole school class.

Nominations for the awards have now closed.  Judging will take place over the summer.

Shortlisted nominees will be invited to special ceremony at the Liberty Stadium in the autumn where Leon Britton will present winners with a special prize.

The awards are sponsored by Gower College Swansea, and supported by Swansea City FC, The Wave, Rotary Club of Swansea, Trade Tyres Swansea, Swansea Building Society, Day's Rental, Stenor Environmental Services, Swansea Council's recycling team, Swansea Lord Mayor's Office, Dragon Events, and The Dragon Hotel.
