Scam phone calls from callers posing as Swansea Council officers.

Once again residents in Swansea are being urged to be on their guard following a series of scam phone calls from callers posing as Swansea Council officers.

Our Trading Standards team have received a number of calls from concerned residents who say the caller claims they are from the council and refers to a recent accident that the resident has supposedly had.

The callers can get nasty and abusive when challenged which wouldn't happen if they were genuine.

No-one from the Council is contacting residents to ask such questions and we would urge anyone that has a phone call of this nature to end the call as soon as possible, especially if you are asked to disclose your banking PIN number as this is something we would never ask for. The callers are also misleading people into thinking they've been contacted by us by cloning our contact details to display on residents' phone handsets.

ORS are actually carrying out a survey at the moment on behalf of Swansea Council but if you do receive a call from them you will be able to tell immediately that they are legitimate.

These calls can be very concerning when they are made to elderly and vulnerable people and if you have family members or friends that you are concerned could fall victim to such a scam please take the opportunity to remind them of the dangers and of what action they should take should they receive one of these calls.
Scam calls should be reported to the National Consumer helpline Welsh 03454 04 05 05 or English 03454 04 05 06. Please share to raise awareness.
