Inspirational children and young people recognised by the awards have spoken out in the hope that others will benefit from the joy and confidence boost they got from being nominated.

They will be posting video messages over the coming weeks to help spread the message that all you need to vote for High 5 awards is on www.swansea.gov.uk/High5Awards

They are urging people to get nominating because the awards made a positive difference to their lives.

Among those calling on people to nominate is Sophie Roberts, aged 17, who won a High 5 Judges Special Award in 2013.

She was recognised for overcoming barriers in her life and turning her education around by attending all her lessons consistently including extra lessons to enable her to catch up in maths so she achieved all the levels for her year group.

She said: "I hope that people will consider nominating a young person they know for a High 5 Award. Winning an award was very special to me. I am doing really well now and passing my exams."

Awards Ambassador and Swans star Leon Britton said: "It's great to hear about the past winners and it's quite humbling to hear them talk about what winning a High 5 meant to them and how it continues to have a positive impact on their lives.

"We need people to nominate someone they know for this year's High 5 Awards so we can continue to make a difference to the lives of young people and help them inspire others."

The High 5 Awards are open to any child, young person or group resident, educated or receiving support in Swansea.

The age ranges are up to 13, 14 to 19 or 20 to 25.

All nominators have to do is say why they think that young person is worthy of recognition for what they have done.

Judges are looking for examples of individuals or groups who aspire to reach personal goals or improve their community and in doing so are an inspiration to others.

Everyone nominated will be recognised with a certificate. The eventual winners' final prizes will be uniquely designed around the nominee.

Everything you need to nominate is at www.swansea.gov.uk/High5Awards

The awards are sponsored by Gower College Swansea, and supported by Swansea City FC, The Wave, Rotary Club of Swansea, Trade Tyres Swansea, Swansea Building Society, Day's Rental, Stenor Environmental Services, Swansea Council's recycling team, Swansea Lord Mayor's Office, Dragon Events, and The Dragon Hotel.
