Daredevil wingwalkers confirmed for Wales National Airshow

Daredevil wingwalkers will be performing in the skies above Swansea Bay this summer.

Wingwalkers

Swansea Council has now confirmed that the world famous Breitling Wingwalkers have been added to the line-up for the free Wales National Airshow taking place on Saturday July 2 and Sunday July 3.

The Breitling Wingwalkers team uses 1940s Boeing Stearman biplanes that roar through the sky at speeds of up to 150mph. While the planes are in flight, the wingwalkers perform handstands and climb around the aircraft against the wind pressure while waving to the crowd below.

The team has performed all over the world, in countries including China, India, Australia and the United Arab Emirates.

Cllr Robert Francis-Davies, Swansea Council's Cabinet Member for Enterprise, Development and Regeneration, said: "The line-up for this summer's airshow is now really starting to take shape. The Breitling Wingwalkers are extremely popular with fans of aerobatics, so their addition to July's airshow in Swansea is a further boost for what's already going to be an event to remember.

"The Wales National Airshow gives local people top quality, free entertainment in their home city, while also attracting hundreds of thousands of visitors, helping to boost our shops, pubs, restaurants, hotels and other businesses.

"This event is one of the main highlights of our Enjoy Swansea Bay programme of events and activities that's got something for everyone this summer and beyond."

Also confirmed to appear at the Airshow is Gerald Cooper - the holder of many British National Aerobatic titles who is frequently ranked in the top 10 at the World Championships.

Gerald began flying competitively in 2000, and has since won many international medals. His flying style is both aggressive and extremely accurate, ensuring that his aerobatic displays are distinctive, innovative and very popular with public airshow audiences.

Other acts appearing include the Tigers parachute team, the Red Arrows, the Eurofighter Typhoon, the Bronco Demo Team, Team Yakovlevs and Team Raven.

A new app has also been launched to help keep Wales National Airshow fans up to speed with this summer's free event.

The official WNAS16 App, now available on iPhones as well as Android and Windows phones, includes news updates, information on aircraft and ground displays, links to hotels and details on Swansea restaurants and other events.

The App, which is the only way to find out about the official timetable, can be downloaded from iTunes, Google Play and the Windows Phone App Store.

Car parking spaces in the city centre fill up quickly due to the popularity of the event, so it's also now possible to book premium parking at the Recreation Ground. All day parking is available at £16.50 per car, per day. The car park, open from 9am to 7pm on both days of the Airshow, is located right next to the main ground display area.
