Plan checking for building regulations

Plans or drawings for proposed schemes are submitted to the council to be checked for compliance with the Building Regulations before work is started.

This is done to make sure any alterations or amendments can be made before the building work is started on site, which can save time and money for the developer.

For domestic work and new housing we require two sets of the plans.  For commercial schemes we require four copies of the plans, as we are required to consult with the Fire Service for these types of buildings.

You will need to have plans drawn by a suitably qualified person such as an architect or designer.  It is also useful to ask someone who has recently had work done to recommend a builder.

For large schemes we offer pre-application checks and meetings to assist with the process, thereby saving time and money for both customers and the Council.  If you are interested in this Service or for advice on any of the above, please contact David Lloyd or Steve Blackmore.

If you are unable to visit the Civic Centre, we will be happy to call at your premises to discuss your application or any queries you may have.  You can arrange a visit by contacting Building Control on 01792 635636 or using our form to Request a building control visit.
