This project includes numerous low energy design features, including a rainwater harvesting tank with a capacity of 15,000 litres, solar panels which heat the water to the juice bar/café area and re-cycled rubber crumb surface treatment to the crèche play area.  A bio mass boiler system was also fitted; burning wood chip. The building also incorporated a passive ventilation system into the design.

A comprehensive fire detection and alarm system was installed which allowed variations in the level of fire protection works that were required for the project.

Access and facility provision for all users were incorporated in the design. The building is fully compliant with Part M and includes accessible shower facilities for the use of all occupants together with accessible w.c's, lifts and level approach.

The complex mix of facilities within the building ensure that it will be well used by the local community.

Canolfan Gorseinon Centre won the Sustainability category at Swansea's Building Excellence Awards 2008.
