Loft conversions

You will need to apply for Building Regulations approval if you are going to carry out a loft conversion.

The relevant requirements of the Regulations will be applied so as to ensure, for example:

  • The structural stability of the proposed floor is sufficient;
  • The stability of the structure, (including the roof) is not endangered;
  • Safe escape from fire and
  • Safely designed stairs to the new floor.

To assist you we have produced a simplified Guidance document which is available by post or can be downloaded from this website.

If you are unable to visit the Civic Centre, we will be happy to call at your premises to discuss your application or any queries you may have.  You can arrange a visit by contacting Building Control on 01792 635636 or using our form to Request a building control visit.
