Volunteering

Volunteering can make a real difference to your own life and the lives of those around you.

As well as being fun and rewarding, it can give you:

  • A great sense of achievement
  • An opportunity to meet new people
  • A way to use the skills you have or to learn new ones
  • A chance to make a difference in the community

Volunteers do not get paid for what they do, but may get out-of-pocket expenses such as travel costs.

Swansea Council for Voluntary Service (SCVS)Opens new window supports volunteering in Swansea and will be able to help you find the right opportunity for you.  Tel: 01792 544000

Volunteering WalesOpens new window will give you information and advice on volunteering and also what opportunities are available in the area.

Volunteering and Benefits

People who are getting benefits are usually able to do some voluntary work without it affecting their benefits, and appropriate voluntary work may count towards 'work search'.  However if you are getting certain benefits - though not State Pension or Pension Credit - you have to tell the Jobcentre Plus and there may be conditions you have to meet as part of your Claimant Commitment in order to keep getting your benefit.
