Ghostbusters Halloween treat for city centre

There'll be something strange going on in Swansea city centre later this month.

Swansea Castle

Live Ghostbusters shows in Swansea Castle's courtyard are among the events and activities being arranged to mark Halloween.

Swansea Council is behind the free fun. The shows will start at 11am, noon and 1pm on Friday October 31.

A range of other activities are also planned on the day for Oxford Street and Swansea Market between 10am and 4pm. They'll include a pumpkin rodeo, freaky face-painting, gruesome grub, a Ghostbusters hunt, plenty of prizes and the chance for visitors to make their own slime.

Cllr Robert Francis-Davies, Swansea Council's Cabinet Member for Enterprise, Development and Regeneration, said: "We know our city centre is facing a tough time because of factors like out-of-town retail parks and internet shopping, so we need to do all we can to support our city centre businesses by attracting crowds of people there. All that's been arranged for Halloween is a win-win for residents and traders because it will offer a fun experience while boosting footfall at the same time.

"Residents and visitors to Swansea can also rest assured that lots more events and activities are being organised for November and December as we build up to Christmas. This is a crucially important time of year for our city centre traders, so I'd urge people to continue to support them.

The city centre isn't just important for Swansea - it's vital for the economic wellbeing of the whole Swansea Bay City Region too."

Other Halloween events include a ticketed performance of Ghostbusting at Penyrheol Theatre on Friday October 31 with actors from Jermin Productions bringing the sights and sounds of New York City to life.

Swansea's first Zombie Apocalypse is also being held in the city centre during the evening of Halloween. Organised by Swansea BID (Business Improvement District) for people aged 18 and over, participants are attending from across Europe.
