Swansea Substance Misuse Action Team (SMAT)![]() Welcome to the website of the Swansea Substance Misuse Action TeamThe Safer Swansea Partnership is formed by groups from the public, private and government sectors, all working together towards the aim of making the City and County of Swansea a safer place in which to live. The SMAT is a sub group of the partnership. For more information about the partnership, please visit http://www.saferswansea.org.uk/ ![]() The Safer Swansea Partnership's Substance Misuse Action Team (SMAT) tackles the causes and consequences of alcohol and drug misuse. The SMAT consists of 40 statutory and independent agencies. The SMAT achieves its actions by working together to commission and deliver treatment and support services for people who misuse substances and for those affected by someone else's misuse. The SMAT also seeks to reduce substance misuse related crime and disorder in our communities. Funding for the specialist treatment and support services is managed by the SMAT Commissioning Board, which acts as the lead planning and commissioning unit of the SMAT. The Board is closely supported by three multi-agency 'thematic' action groups for children and young people, crime reduction and health and well-being. Welsh Assembly Government (WAG) provides a significant annual grant for treatment/support services, and its representatives are active members of the SMAT.
