ECDL (taught in 2 years)

A 60 week, six term course that will teach all seven of the core ECDL modules in preparation for gaining an ECDL qualification.

The European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL) is an IT skills qualification, recognised and respected worldwide. Passing the seven core ECDL modules demonstrates competence and ability in commonly used Microsoft and internet applications. This internationally recognised qualification is an excellent addition when presenting your competence in IT skills and abilities to prospective employers.

This course will help learners progress towards attaining their ECDL qualification, by providing structured taught sessions with access to the seven core module resource books that will help them pass their exams. In addition to accessing ECDL teaching materials, learners will be able to take mock exams. Actual exams can be undertaken by prior arrangement at our scheduled exam days.

The seven ECDL units are:

  • IT user fundamentals - Teaches basic interaction with computers, productive use and basic computer housekeeping.
  • Using email and the internet - Using the Internet and emailing in a safe and secure way. Understanding key terms and the basics of computer security.
  • Security for IT users (UK) - Understanding the essentials of using a computer safely and securely, protecting own data and that of others.
  • Word processing - Using a range of basic word processing tools and techniques to produce suitable and straightforward documents.
  • Spreadsheet software - Understanding and using a range of basic spreadsheet tools and techniques to produce spreadsheets.
  • Presentation software - Using basic presentations software tools. Learners will create text and/or diagram based slide shows or lecture notes.
  • Database software - Basic database software tools, to enable learners to enter information, set up single tables and extract information by running database queries.

Who is it suitable for?

This course is delivered over two years. The course is suitable for learners who have some limited understanding of IT, computers and the internet, and are able to contribute hours to study and preparation time outside of the taught lessons.

What will you need?

Computers will be available for this course. All resources for printing will also be provided. A memory stick is required and a notebook and pen will be helpful for recording notes.

How much will it cost?

This workshop is free to attend but learners must enrol to secure a place in advance. Exam fees covering all 7 modules of the ECDL costs a total of £50 which must be paid prior to taking the first exam. Learners have three years from the first exam date to complete all seven modules. 

Six term course over two years. The first week will involve an information, advice and guidance session to consider course and workshop choices and their suitability to meeting learner needs.
