New car parking promotion for Swans games
SWANS fans have a chance to buy an early Christmas present for themselves or a football-mad loved one.
Swansea Council is now making car parking passes available at the Landore Park and Ride site for 12 remaining Premier League home fixtures for £72.
The offer, which is open until Saturday November 22, starts with the game at the Liberty Stadium against Queen's Park Rangers on Tuesday December 2. It works out at £6 a match.
One pass will be allocated per car as part of the scheme. Some of the other matches covered by the offer include the home Premier League games against Chelsea, Manchester United and Liverpool.
Cllr Mark Thomas, Swansea Council's Cabinet Member for Environment and Transportation, said: "We first launched this scheme earlier this season and many Swans fans have already taken us up on it. That's not surprising because a parking pass at the Park and Ride site gives supporters affordable, safe parking within a stone's throw of the Liberty Stadium, while also helping us generate money at a time when we're looking to tackle a major budget deficit and protect as many services as possible for residents right across the city.
"It makes sense to offer a revised package now because there are plenty more spaces left at the Park and Ride site, and many people will find it far more convenient to park closer to the stadium on winter days and evenings.
"The Swans do an incredible job in putting our city on the map and the benefits Premier League status brings are considerable, but we are mindful that heavy traffic can become an issue close to the Liberty Stadium on match days. We've listened to the concerns of people living by and we hope that allocating one pass per car as part of this scheme will encourage car-sharing and help cut down on congestion."
Cards to access the Park and Ride site will be sent out to the address supplied when applying for the parking permit. Match day parking will be available for two hours both before kick-off and after the final whistle.
Cup games aren't included in the offer but the Park and Ride site will be opened for cup matches.
